Engineering

The Engineering Section of the Sangrahalaya looks after the works related with construction and electricity and water supply etc. The works so far carried out pertaining to the Engineering are as follows

I. Temporary Exhibition Building (Avriti Bhawan):- This building located near the lake view side of the campus with plinth area of 868.92 sq.meter was constructed in the year 1989-90 for Periodical Exhibitions. The structure was constructed by Madhya Pradesh Housing Board, a Govt. of M.P. undertaking on deposit works basis. This building is being used by the Sangrahalaya for putting up Temporary Exhibitions.

Guest House and Hostel Building : This building having an area of 1568 sq.meter consists of 4 guest suits and 12 hostel rooms. The structure was constructed in the year 1993-94 by Madhya Pradesh Housing Board on deposit work basis.

Staff Housing: The structure of the Housing complex of type-11 (6 Nos), type-111(10 Nos) and type-1V(4 Nos) quarters were constructed in the year 1991 through the M.P. Housing Board, a Govt. of M.P. undertaking. These Houses have been converted into the Office Complex and the museum offices are presently functioning in this complex.

4. 12 Shed Temporary Structures: These Temporary housing shed (12 Nos sheds each having the space of 84 sqm meter area) were constructed in the year 1992-93 through the Capital Project Administration, an agency of Govt. of M.P., for the purpose of museum objects storage and setting up of various technical workshops and laboratories. One more shed for setting up the Ceremic workshop was added in the year 1995.

6 Road Net works: The road net work of the Sangrahalaya was constructed in the IGRMS through the Govt. of M.P. agency, the Capital Project Administration in the year 1991-92. The total length of the road net work in the museum campus measures approximately 3 kms. Provided with the foot path on both the side of the road upto 600 meter length from entrance gate no.1.

7. Water Supply Schemes: The Sangrahalaya is having two sources of water supply. The first one is the supply of water from the PHE water pipe line at the 1.5 Lacs litre capacity sump well situated at Gate no.1, from where the water is lifted to Tribal habitat Sump well for further distribution to the T.H. Area, Office Complex, Guest House and Hostel Building, and 12 Sheds complex presently known as Charaivety. The Second Source of water is from three tube wells located at the lake side area from where the water to the various locations is lifted vis. (i) to the 1 lac litre capacity RCC Tank near the Rock Art building just beside the Regional College boundary for distribution of water to the Indoor Museum Building and Rock Art building. (ii) From the other two tube well the water is lifted for Avritti Building and supplement the Tribal Habitat water tank. Various outlet have been provided at the desired location for irrigation of plants and nursery of the Horticulture, and Exhibition area.

8. VeethiSankul, the Indoor Museum Building: The initial conceptual plan of the National Museum of Man was formed by the Expert group followed by the constitution of the Advisory Committee under the Chairpersonship of Mrs. Pupul Jayakar in September, 1979. The Services of Shri Ram Sharma as Architect for the Sangrahalaya was recommended by the Advisory Committee .
The Revised Design of the Indoor Museum Building incorporating the recommended amendments was submitted by the Architect and the Design was approved by the Executive Council of the RMSS in its 15th meeting held on 16.3.1992

The foundation stone for the construction of Indoor Museum Building was laid by the then Honorable Minister of Human Resource Development, Sh. Arjun Singh on 5th May, 1992. The Capital Project Administration, an agency of the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh was engaged as construction agency for execution of the Indoor Museum Building. The CPA had completed about 60% of civil construction and stopped the work unilaterally w.e.f. 23.3.1996 due to dispute on the excess payments to contractor. The left over work of the Indoor Museum Building was entrusted to the IRCON International Ltd., in December. The Building was handed over by IRCON in the year 2001 and it was made available for the preparation of the exhibitions. The Expenditure Finance Committee approved a total project cost of Rs.1681.18 Lacs, Area -12000 sq.mtr. approx.

The Building is unique in its architecture constructed on the rocky terrain incorporating difficult levels of sloppy land on the two floors. The different exhibition halls Seminar room, indoor & out door Auditorium and other miscellaneous facilities in the Lower Ground and Upper Ground floors have been constructed on approximately 16 levels. The Building is meant for only Indoor Exhibition galleries of the IGRMS having 10 halls, One Indoor Auditorium having the capacity for 275 person and one out door Auditorium with the capacity of approximately 300 persons. The Indoor Auditorium has been furnished with Acoustic treatments, Stage lighting, stage furnishing, Audio vidual equipment and sound reinforcement systems.

The provision for access by physically challenged person into the Exhibition Building has been made by constructing 3X200 Meter PCC Road from the 12 Shed side of the Sangrahalaya to entrance court. The provision of ramp has also been made from the entrance court upto Exhibition Hall No.2

The Building structure is covered by the Dholpur sand stone cladding from all sides including parapet and pavement in the entrance court yard and plinth protection around building. The flooring in building including stairs are fixed with Kota stone flooring.
