The group made up of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim states is called the Northeast. This area is very important in geographical, mythological, historical and strategic terms. With the view of culture, language, tradition, lifestyle, diet, customs, festivals, traditions etc., this area is diverse so that it is not exaggerated to call this region the cultural laboratory of India. The northeast has the highest tribal population. Almost the entire population of Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya is tribal. The ranges, evergreen forests and river is enhances the natural beauty of this area. Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya has selected all north-east states as the theme of its 43rdFoundation Day. Under the celebrations IGRMS is organising various programmes and activities at its premises from 08-10 March, 2019. On this occasion a special exhibition on handloom textile tradition of North-East entitled ‘Hath-Kargha’ will be inaugurated at Veethi Sankul, IGRMS and artists, resource person, retired museum personnel will be honoured. On the eve of Foundation Day, country’s largest lamp with 1001 wicks ‘Aal-Vilakku’ will be lighted. Later traditional artists from North-East will give performing arts presentation at Veethi Sankul open air auditorium. The other major attractions of the three day long festival are as follows Exhibitions, Annual Lecture, Seminar, Cultural Performance, Craft Fair and Food Festival.
