Introduction
Bhumpa is a traditional brass container used to boil water for tea. The shape of the utensil is very much in resemblance to 'samovar' popularly used in Russia, and in some parts of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and the Middle East countries. In India it is mostly used in Saurashtra region of Gujarat and in kashmir and Laddakh.  Sometimes the circular mouth of the Bhumpa is used to hold and heat a tea pot filled with tea concentrate. Many a times the tea pot is set atop to keep warm.

भम्पा पीतल का एक पारंपरिक पात्र है जिसका इस्तेमाल चाय बनाने के लिए पानी को उबालने के लिए किया जाता है। बर्तन का आकार समोवर से बहुत मिलता जुलता है जोकि रूस, मध्य, पूर्वी और दक्षिण-पूर्वी यूरोप और मध्य पूर्व के कुछ देशों में उपयोग किया जाता है। भारत में यह ज्यादातर  गुजरात के सौराष्ट्र क्षेत्र, कश्मीर  एवं लद्दाख में उपयोग किया जाता है। कभी-कभी भम्पा के गोलाकार मुँह का इस्तेमाल भरे हुए चाय के बर्तन को रखकर गर्म करने के लिए किया जाता है। कई बार चाय की केतली को लम्बे समय तक गरम रखने के लिए भी उसके ऊपर रखा जाता है। 

Bhumpa and its accessories
Bhumpa is a metal urn rest on a square base attached with supporting legs. The transition from the urn to the base is called the neck, which is typically more narrow than the urn. It has perforations on it’s upper  part to facilitate air to pass and maintain the combustion process. The ash-pit is located between the neck and the base so that ash can be easily removed after use. Handles are located on the sides of the urn. They are usually curved metal plates used to facilitate the transfer of the Bhumpa from one place to another. The faucet is attached on the front of the urn to collect the boiled water in other utensil. A circular plate, is used as a lid and is placed on the top part of the body. The lid is used to pour water inside the urn and closed afterwards so that steam remains inside. A small hemispherical knob is there to fasten the plate. 

भम्पा धातु का एक कलश है, जो एक वर्गाकार आधार पर  स्थित सहायक पैरों द्वारा जुड़ा हुआ है। कलश से आधार तक के हिस्से को गर्दन कहा जाता है, जो आमतौर पर कलश की तुलना में अधिक  संकरा होता है। आग को जलाये  रखने के लिए हवा आने की सुविधा के लिए इसके ऊपरी हिस्से पर एक छिद्र होता है। राखदानी गर्दन और आधार के बीच स्थित है  उपयोग के बाद राख को आसानी से हटाया जा सकता है। कलश के दोनों तरफ हत्थे स्थित हैं जो आमतौर पर घुमावदार धातु की प्लेट से बने होते हैं और जिनका उपयोग भम्पा को एक स्थान से दूसरे स्थान पर ले जाने के लिए के लिए किया जाता है। अन्य बर्तन में पानी को निकालने के लिए पात्र के सामने एक नलकी लगाई गयी  है। एक गोलाकार प्लेट, जो ढक्कन के रूप में उपयोग की जाती है उसे पात्र के ऊपरी भाग में रखा जाता है । ढक्कन का उपयोग कलश के अंदर पानी डालने के लिए किया जाता है और बाद में बंद कर दिया जाता है ताकि पानी की भाप बाहर न आ सके। प्लेट को बंद करने के लिए एक छोटी गोलाकार घुंडी लगी हुई है ।   

Cultural utilities
It is a common belief that water boiled in this kind of brass utensil are good for health. It is used in different occasions and ceremonies for preparing tea. It is considered as an item for every bride to take to the inlaws house. It is mostly engraved with leaves and geometric designs. The kashmiri samovar and ladakhi bhumpa are quite different in shape and size with beautiful motifs and calligarphy though fulfill the same pupose to brew, boil and serve tea. It has always been an center of attraction on the serving table.

ऐसा माना जाता है कि इस तरह के पीतल के बर्तन में उबला हुआ पानी स्वास्थ्यवर्धक होता है। इसका उपयोग विभिन्न अवसरों और समारोहों में चाय तैयार करने के लिए किया जाता है। इसे दुल्हन के साथ ससुराल ले जाने वाली वस्तु के रूप में दिया  जाता है। इसके ऊपर पत्तियां और ज्यामितीय डिजाइनें उकेरी गयी हैं। कश्मीरी  समोवर और लद्दाखी भम्पा सुंदर रूपांकनों और सुलेख के साथ-साथ आकार-प्रकार  में भी काफी भिन्नता दर्शाते हैं, हालांकि यह सभी काढ़ा बनाने, उबालने और चाय परोसने के लिये ही उपयोग किये जाते हैं। यह हमेशा मुख्य  मेज पर आकर्षण का केंद्र होते हैं।
