Museum Popular Lecture

 

Museum Popular Lecture - As part of the programme to celebrate the 40th anniversary of independence the Sangrahalaya organized a National Lecture Series. Eminent anthropologists Prof. S.C. Dube, Prof. V.N. Mishra and Prof. Gopal Sarana delivered lectures in this series. Another National Lecture in commemoration of the birth centenary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was organized in 1991-92 in which Dr. S.P. Gupta spoke on 'Aspects of Indian Civilization'.

A new series named Museum Popular Lecture was also initiated in 1989 with the first lecture by Prof. Laxmi Narayana Bhaosar on'Mand ane and Chitrawana of Malwa'. Since then many lectures have been organsied in this series on various themes related to Anthropology, Art, Architecture, Museology, Ethnomusicology, Archaeology, Astronomy etc. Some of the important speakers who delivered lectures in the series include Prof. K. Thimma Reddy, Prof. V.H. Bedekar, Dr . B.N. Saraswati, Prof. Samrendra Saraf, Dr. Angelo Fossati, Dr. Robert C. Bednarik, Dr. B.K. Roy Burman, Dr. Michael Loblanchet, Dr. R. Sengupta, Manu Sobti, Prof. Yashdeo Shalya, Prof. Walter Spinks etc.

 

These lectures were organized in Bhopal, New Delhi and Mysore and received wide coverage in media.

 

Prof. A Aiyappan Centenary Lecture was delivered by Prof. T.N. Madan, Delhi University. Professor Aiyappan was a well known anthropologist and museologist.
